How to write Hinglish scripts that sound natural

What natural Hinglish actually is

Hinglish is not half Hindi and half English by word count. It is Hindi grammar with English vocabulary dropped in.

• The spine is Hindi: word order, verbs at the end, "hai", "tha", "raha hai", "ke liye".
• English carries things and terms: phone, battery, video, salary, interview, meeting, budget, settings.
• English verbs become Hindi verbs: "share karo", "download kiya", "block ho gaya", "set kar lo".
• Emotion and punchlines usually stay in Hindi: "dimaag kharab ho gaya", "bas, ho gaya kaam".

Scripts go wrong in two directions. Some read like English translated word by word ("Aaj hum discuss karenge ki kaise aap apne video ko viral bana sakte hain"). Others force formal Hindi where nobody uses it ("Apne chalchitra ko sampadit karein"). Both sound like a machine.

Notice the pattern: shorter sentences, the point first, a real consequence instead of an abstract benefit.

Pick the mix from your audience, not from a rule

There is no correct ratio. Open your comments section and read twenty comments. Do people write "kaise kare" or "how to do"? Do they say "paisa" or "money"? Write the way they write. A gadget or startup channel can carry more English terms. A cooking, devotional or village life channel usually needs more Hindi. If your audience mixes, you mix.

Make a Roman spelling style sheet

Roman Hindi has no fixed spelling, so the same word appears three ways in one video. That looks careless in captions and confuses AI voices. Pick one spelling and stick to it:

Roman or Devanagari for voice-over?

If you are recording the voice yourself, write in whatever you read fastest. If an AI voice will read the script, test both. Roman Hinglish can be misread: "main" (मैं) can be read like the English "main", and "par" or "hum" can come out with an English accent. Many Hindi voices handle Devanagari more reliably, so a common workflow is to write in Roman Hinglish, then convert the voice-over copy to Devanagari while keeping English words like "phone" or "EMI" spelled the way you want them said. Listen to the output before you publish.

Common mistakes

• Translating from English: write the Hinglish line first, not an English line you then convert.
• Too many English adjectives: "amazing", "beneficial", "important" sound like an ad. Hindi carries feeling better.
• Formal "aap" when your channel says "tum": keep the address consistent through the whole video.
