Preview your YouTube thumbnail before you post

Upload your thumbnail, type your title, and see both the way viewers will: on the YouTube home feed, in search results and on a phone, in dark and light mode.

Free, no login, no credits.

How it works in 3 steps

  1. 1

Upload your thumbnail and type the title exactly as you will publish it.

  2. 2

Switch between Home, Search and Mobile, and between dark and light mode.

  3. 3

If something does not read, fix it in your editor or make a new version, upload again, and compare.

A YouTube thumbnail preview shows your thumbnail and title inside a mock-up of the YouTube page before you publish, so you can judge them where they will actually be seen. This free Kritiverse tool needs no login and no credits. Upload the image, type the title, and switch between the home feed, search results and the mobile view, in dark mode and light mode. Most viewers meet your thumbnail small, on a phone, next to other videos. A design that looks great full screen in your editor can turn into a blur at that size. Use it as a quick thumbnail tester before every upload.

What to look for at small size

  • One idea. Can you tell what the video is about in a second, before reading the title?
  • Few, big words. If the words are hard to read on the mobile view, cut words instead of shrinking the text.
  • The squint test. Look at the preview with half-closed eyes. The face, object or number that carries the idea should still stand out.
  • The bottom right corner. YouTube puts the video length there. Keep faces and words clear of it.
  • One accent colour. One bright colour on the main subject reads better than five colours fighting.

Dark mode and light mode

Many viewers use YouTube in dark mode, where the page is almost black, and many use the white light mode. A thumbnail with a dark edge can melt into the dark page, and one with a white or pale edge can disappear on the light page. Check both. If one version fades, add a little contrast around the edges or brighten the main subject.

Thumbnail and title as a pair

Viewers read the thumbnail and the title together, so they should work as a team, not repeat each other. If your title says "Maine 7 din sirf ₹500 ka phone chalaya", the thumbnail does not need the same words. Let it show the phone on day 7, or a short line like "DAY 7?". Both should promise only what the video really shows. Long titles get cut on small screens, so put the key words first.

Thumbnail size basics

YouTube thumbnails are 16:9, and 1280 x 720 pixels is the size most creators upload. If your image is a different shape, fix it in your editor before you upload, so YouTube does not crop or pad it for you. YouTube changes its limits from time to time, so check YouTube Help for the latest upload rules.

Next steps

Not happy with what you see? The YouTube thumbnail maker gives you three different ideas with Hindi, Hinglish or English text drawn cleanly as a layer. Sharpen your title in the AI script writer, test your opening line in Hook Lab, and plan the next upload in the AI content planner.

Hinglish mein short: Thumbnail upload karo, title likho, aur dekho YouTube home, search aur mobile par kaisa dikhta hai, dark aur light mode mein. Free hai, login nahi chahiye. Chhote size mein na padha jaaye toh words kam karo.

Questions

Is the thumbnail preview really free?

Yes. It is free, with no login and no credits.

Do I need to sign up?

No. Open the page, upload your thumbnail and type your title.

Is this exactly what YouTube will show?

It is a close mock-up of the home feed, search and mobile layouts, in dark and light mode. YouTube changes its design from time to time, so check once more after you publish.

Do you keep my thumbnail?
Does it work on my phone?

Yes, in the phone browser. The mobile view is the one to check most carefully, because that is where most people will see your thumbnail.

Can it make a better thumbnail for me?

The preview only shows how your image looks. To make new options, use the YouTube thumbnail maker, then bring them back here to compare.
