Design Studio

Direction Mode

Change a picture or clip in plain words, keep every version, and turn any version into a video.

This page goes deeper than the first run: the Edits, the camera and light choices, versions, video, tags and the prompt card. For your very first edit, start with the page called Using Direction Mode.

What it does

Direction Mode is a control room for one scene. You put a picture or a clip on the Stage and say what to change, in your own words. Only that part changes. Every result is a new version, and the old ones stay, so you can go back to any of them.

Any version can become a video. You can also ask for a detailed prompt of a picture or a clip.

When to use it

  • You have a picture and want one small change: a smile, a new background, a different outfit, a closer shot.
  • You want to try several ideas on the same scene and keep the best one.
  • You want to put a saved model's face, or a product from your catalogue, into a picture.
  • You have a clip and want it slower, in a new shape, trimmed, or changed.
  • You want a prompt that describes a picture or clip you like.

If you have no picture yet, Create is quicker. You can also start here with only words, and the first picture is made from them.

Step by step

Change a picture

  1. In the menu, open Design Studio, then Direction Mode. The first time, it asks for your month and year of birth. This tool is for people aged 18 and over.
  2. Add a picture. Press From Assets or Library, and pick one or press Upload from device there. You can also drop a picture on the page or paste one. Under Try there are starter lines too.
  3. Say what to change in the box, for example "Make her smile".
  4. Press Send. You see "Making changes…". The new version appears on the Stage.
  5. Keep going. Each new edit starts from the version on the Stage. A tag on it says "Next edit starts here".
  6. To go back, open the three dots on an older version and press Continue from this.

The price is the tooltip on Send: hold the pointer on it. Each result in Instructions then shows what it cost.

Use the Director's panel instead of typing

  1. Open Direction if the panel is closed. It opens on the Direct tab.
  2. Open a part, such as Edits, Rotate, Reframe, Time of day, Season or VFX.
  3. Tap a card. Its words go into the instruction box. Tap it again to take it off.
  4. Press Send, or press Apply at the foot of the panel to run your picks at once.

Turn a version into a video

  1. Put the version you want on the Stage.
  2. Press Turn into video. The box fills with a line about gentle, natural motion. Change it to say how it should move.
  3. Under Motion in the Direct tab, pick Video length. Pick the video Quality.
  4. Press Send.

Change a clip

  1. Start a new scene with a video file. MP4, MOV and WebM work.
  2. Say what to change, for example "make it slower, make it 9:16, add rain".
  3. A quote card shows the kind of change, the price and the time. Press Run, or Cancel.

Ask for a prompt

Say "write a detailed prompt for this picture", or open a version's menu and press Prompt (JSON). A card shows the prompt, and you can copy it.

Scenes and the Stage

ControlWhat it does
New sceneStarts a fresh scene. The list of Scenes shows the newest first. The bin icon deletes a scene
Open scenes and Hide recent scenesShow or fold the Scenes column
Version labelShows the version, for example v3, and what made it
Back to latestShows when you are on an older version. It takes you to the newest
Previous version and Next versionMove along the versions
TagNames who or what is in the scene, so every later edit keeps them. Press it and pick "This is" a model or product
Tile view and Grid viewOne version large, or every version at once
CompareA before and after slider. Drag the line, or use the arrow keys. For clips, Play both
Run againRuns the same words again from the same version. It is a new paid run
Turn into videoTurns a picture into a video
DownloadSaves the file
UpscaleMakes a picture bigger. It shows only when Upscale is open for you. A version that is already as large as it goes stays greyed

Dragging the lines between the columns changes their width. Double click a line to reset it. On a phone, the Director's panel sits below the Stage, and the Open scenes button opens your scenes list.

The versions strip and its menu

The versions show in two places, and they stay in step: a version you pick in one is picked in the other.

  • At the top of the Direct tab, just above Quality.
  • Inside the instruction box, in a row that folds. The small arrow in the box's bar names the version you are on, for example v3. Press it to show or hide the row. Only this row folds, and your choice is remembered on this device.

Every version is saved to your Library. Open the three dots on a version for:

The Direct tab, in order

PartWhat it does
VersionsEvery version of the scene. Tap one to put it on the Stage, and the next edit starts from it
QualityStandard, Refined or Ultra for pictures. For a video, the video quality. Quick is not offered here because it cannot edit a picture
EditsSix cards: Swap face, Swap outfit, Swap product, Swap background, Expression and Add props. Where they are open for your account, three more follow: Add Person, Cloth colour and Background colour
RotateThe camera moves around the person: 45° left, 45° right, 90° left, 90° right, 135° left, 135° right, or From the back. It starts from the way the person faces in your picture, so 90° from a person already turned can end on their back, not a side view
ReframeZoom out, Zoom in and Extend the frame
Time of dayDay, Night, Golden hour and Blue hour
SeasonSummer, Monsoon, Winter, Spring and Autumn
VFXRain, snow, fog, lens flare, neon glow, sparks, fireworks, smoke, light leaks and bokeh lights
Look directionWhere the eyes look: Almost at camera (the default), At camera, Shy eyes down, Look left, Look right, Look up, Look down, Over the shoulder, Side glance, Dreamy away and Eyes closed. Left and right are the sides of the picture as you look at it. Shows where it is open for your account
Aspect ratioThe shape of the next result, from Square to Cinema, each card showing the same picture at that shape. A new shape recomposes the picture so the whole person stays in frame and nothing of them is cut off. Shows where it is open for your account
Direction groupsCamera angle, shot size, lens, light and colour grade. Pick one or more. Reset clears them
FaceKeep the face, or Pick a model to use a saved model
MotionTurn into video, Video length, and Transitions: Zoom into, Morph into, Pan to

The six Edits cards work like this:

  • Swap face needs a model in the Model slot. The ears and neck come with the new face. Everything else stays.
  • Swap outfit opens your Prop Box on clothes. You can also describe the outfit in words.
  • Swap product needs a product in the Product slot. The hands, pose, light and set stay.
  • Swap background opens Backgrounds. You can also describe the place.
  • Expression opens a row of moods. Only the face moves. The person stays the same.
  • Add props opens your Prop Box. Say where it goes, for example "in her right hand".
  • Add Person opens Assets on Models. Pick a saved model or influencer, or add one or more of your own pictures with Upload or from Recent. The person shows as a chip under the cards; tap the chip to pick someone else. Under it, Where and how takes a few optional words, for example "sitting beside her on the sofa". When you press Send, the scene is read first: the place, the light, the camera and the people already there. Then one detailed prompt adds exactly your person, with their face, hair and body from their pictures, placed and lit to match, in clothes that suit the scene unless your words ask for their own clothes. Everyone and everything already in the picture stays. The prompt that was sent shows under the result as Prompt sent, with Copy and Use in the box. With nobody picked, the scene read chooses the person who fits best.
  • Cloth colour changes only the colour of one garment. Pick the garment when there are several, then a colour or Custom colour. The cloth, its folds, the pose and the frame stay exactly the same.
  • Background colour puts the person on a plain backdrop of the colour you pick. The person stays exactly the same.

When the picture has more than one person, Swap outfit, Cloth colour and Expression show Who: Auto, Person on the left, Person in the middle or Person on the right. With Auto the picture is read to find the one person the change is for, for example a sherwani goes on the man. Everyone else keeps their own clothes, face and pose.

Edits that are not about a face (an outfit, a colour, a background, a prop, a product or Add Person) keep the faces already in the picture exactly as they were, so faces stay clean over many edits in a row. A face the edit moved or turned is left as the new version drew it.

A pick in Look direction alone changes only where the eyes look. A pick in Aspect ratio sets the shape of the next result only, and the Shape button in the box shows it.

For a start frame and an end frame, drag a version into the End box above the instruction box. The Start box takes the version you are working on. Transitions use both.

The Instructions tab lists your instructions, their results and the prompt cards.

What it costs

Picture edits cost by the quality you pick, and by How many. This table lists every quality. Quick is not offered in Direction Mode.

QualityGood forCost
QuickQuick drafts from text10 credits
StandardYour product, face or cast, kept the same25 credits
RefinedText, posters and complex scenes25 credits
UltraThe sharpest detail, for hero shots and start frames90 credits

Video costs by the video quality: Kriti Motion costs 110 credits for each 8 seconds started, and Kriti Cinema costs 350 credits. A speed, shape or trim change on a clip costs 2 credits. An AI video edit and an Extend show their price on the quote card before you run them. A prompt read is free up to a daily count on your plan, then 3 credits. With Add Person, reading the scene costs the same as AI Polish, 2 credits, and is free on paid plans where AI Polish is. Try again reuses the prompt it wrote, so it is not read or charged again. The edit that adds the person, a Cloth colour and a Background colour cost the same as any picture edit at the quality you pick.

Every version is final and paid once it is made. If a job fails, you see "This one did not work. Your credits are back."

Tips

  • Ask for one change at a time. If a version changed too much, press Continue from this on an older one and ask again more clearly.
  • Use Tag on a person or product so later edits keep them as they are.
  • Add clear, front facing pictures of a person for Swap face. Use a real person's face only with their permission. Famous people and politicians cannot be used.
  • Use Compare after a change to check that only the asked part moved.

Common problems

"Say what to change." The box is empty. Type your change, or tap a card.

"Pick a model for the new face first: the Model slot under the box." Add a model, then press Send.

"We could not find a clear face in this picture. Pick a photo of one person facing the camera." Use a clearer photo.

"That is not allowed by our content rules." Change the words and try again.

"This one did not work. Your credits are back." Press Try again.

"AI video edits need a clip of at least 3 seconds." Use a longer clip.

"No models or products yet. Add them in My Models or the Product Catalogue." Add one first, then use @ or Tag.

"This is for people aged 18 and over." Direction Mode is for adults only. Other tools stay open.
