Passport Photo
Crop a passport photo to your document's rules, pick any background and border, and print an A4 or 4 x 6 inch sheet. It runs on your device.
Passport Photo finds your face, crops the photo to the rule of the document you choose, and gives you a digital file and a sheet to print. It runs on your device, so your photo is not uploaded.
What it does
The tool finds the face on your own device, levels the head, and crops to the head size and photo size for your document. It can change the background to white, light blue or any colour, and add a border. It never edits your face. The screen shows each step while it works. The first time you use it, it loads about 25 MB of tools onto your device, so wait a little. After that it starts faster.
When to use it
- For a passport, a visa, an exam form or a PAN form.
- For any office that asks for a passport size photo.
- For other sizes, use Resize Image. Photo Tools also has a Passport photo job, which cuts you out and costs credits.
Step by step
- Press Choose a photo of yourself, or press Take a photo on a phone.
- Under Document, pick yours, such as India passport.
- Check the crop. Drag the photo, or change Head size, until the head sits in the dotted oval.
- Under the photo, pick a Background. Turn on Add a border if you want one.
- Read the checks. Under Common sizes, pick a size if you do not need a document's own rule. Each size shows how many fit your paper.
- For a print, go to Print sheet. Pick the Paper, Copies, Gap between photos and Cut marks. The picture of the sheet shows what will print. Then press Download PDF or Download JPG.
- For an online form, set Maximum size (KB) if you need it, then press Download digital photo.
Every option explained
| Control | What it does |
|---|---|
| Choose a photo of yourself and Take a photo | Opens a photo, or opens the camera on a phone. |
| Document | India passport, PAN card form, SSC exam form, IBPS bank exam form, US visa, UK passport, Schengen visa, Canada passport or Custom size. It sets the size, head size and file size. The line under it shows the rule, with an Official rule link to that office's own page. |
| Common sizes | Stamp size (20 x 25 mm), ID card (25 x 35), Small photo (30 x 40), Passport (35 x 45), Visa (33 x 48), 2 x 2 inch (51 x 51) and Large photo (50 x 70). Each shows how many fit your paper. These are common print sizes, not an office's rule. |
| Custom | Your own width and height. |
| Width (mm) and Height (mm) | Your own size in mm, from 10 to 200. |
| Head size | A slider that makes the head larger or smaller in the frame. |
| Background | Keep mine, White, Light blue or Custom for any colour. UK passport and Schengen visa also offer Light grey. The tool picks Keep mine when your wall is already light and plain, and White when it is not. |
| Add a border | A line round the photo, inside its size. Pick Thickness (0.3, 0.6 or 1.2 mm) and Border colour. It shows in the photo, the sheet and the digital file. |
| Add my name and date on the photo | Adds a strip at the foot with your Name and Date, for forms that ask for it. |
| Paper | A4 or 4 x 6 inch photo paper. The sheet turns on its side when more photos fit that way. |
| Copies | 4, 6, 8, 12 or Fill the page, which shows how many fit. |
| Gap between photos | 2, 4 or 6 mm. |
| Cut marks | Grey marks to cut along. Turn them off if you do not want them. |
| Download PDF and Download JPG | Save the sheet. |
| Maximum size (KB) | For online forms. The pixels stay exact and the quality comes down. If the document has a size range, the tool uses it. |
| Download digital photo | Saves one JPG at the document's size. |
| Show before and after | Shows a slider to compare. |
| Start over | Lets you pick another photo. |
The checks are only advice and never stop a download: one person, looking straight, eyes open, mouth closed, even light, a plain background, and enough detail for the size.
Who can use it

What it costs
Free. It runs on your device, so it uses no credits.
Tips
- Face a light, plain wall, with even light on your face. Ask someone to take the photo from about 1.5 metres. No glasses.
- Print at 100 percent, not Fit to page, so the size stays exact. Cut along the grey marks.
- Many official photos must have no border. Check your form before you add one.
- If your office does not accept an edited background and your wall is plain and white, choose Keep mine.
- Each office decides for itself. Check your form's own rules. The tool promises no acceptance.
Common problems
"We could not find a face in this photo. Try a clear photo that faces the camera." Use a sharper photo, taken from the front.
"More than one face. We used the biggest one." Use a photo with only you in it.
"The background is busy. A plain wall gives a cleaner result." Stand in front of a plain wall, or pick White or Light blue.
"We could not reach your limit at this pixel size." The message gives the closest size. Raise Maximum size (KB), or use a closer photo.
"We could not change the background on this device." The device ran short of memory, so your photo keeps its own background. A photo on a plain light wall does not need this step.
"This size does not fit on this paper." Choose a smaller size, or A4.
"Try a JPG, PNG, WebP or HEIC photo." This comes after "We could not open" and the file name. The tool cannot read that file.
